Dr. Vijay Jayaraman is one of the only two formally trained therapeutic endoscopists practicing in Southern Nevada. He is recognized as an authority on the use of endoscopic ultrasound, biliary and pancreatic endoscopy, ERCP, luminal stent placement, staging of GI malignancies, small bowel diseases. He specializes in endoscopic diagnosis of pancreatic and bile duct cancers, endoscopic resection (EMR) of early esophageal or gastric cancers and large colon polyps, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of Barrett’s esophagus, ERCP in surgically altered anatomy, interventional EUS (such as biliary drainage or rendezvous procedures, pancreas pseudocyst drainage, pancreas necrosectomy, fiducial placement and abscess drainage) and wireless capsule endoscopy (Pill Cam). In addition, he is highly proficient in all the standard endoscopic procedures and esophageal manometry. Over the past few years, because of this unique skill set, he has become the referral physician for complex endoscopic procedures that previously were referred out of state.
Dr. Vijay-as he is commonly known-completed his residency in Internal Medicine at SUNY, Stony Brook. As one of the most adept trainees in his program, he was selected to be chief resident. Subsequently he did his gastroenterology training at SUNY Stony Brook. He was then chosen to do a highly selective advanced fellowship in therapeutic endoscopy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Once his training was complete, Dr. Vijay joined the academic faculty at the University of Nevada. In this capacity he took an active role in the education of trainees in the only ACGME-accredited gastroenterology training program in the state. He also took part in clinical research, and has published numerous articles in nationally and internationally peer-reviewed journals. He has also been part faculty at national and regional conferences associated with training other gastroenterologists.
In 2015, Dr. Vijay helped form CDIN. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). Additionally, he maintains ABIM Board Certification in both Internal medicine and Gastroenterology.
